Based on this registration, he is required to obtain ten training credits per calender year in each registered principal legal practice area in accordance with the standards set by the Netherlands Bar.

Gie van den Broek studied Dutch law at Maastricht University with a major in European Legal Studies. During his Masters he studied one year at Université d’ Aix-Marseille in Aix-en-Provence. With a VSB-scholarship he onwards obtained a postgraduate Multidisciplinary Master in European Studies at the University of Liège. A Robert Schuman scholarship enabled Gie in 1996 to work on a legal study on illegal and harmful content on internet at DG IV of the European Parliament.

Gie has extensive legal experience in the areas of corporate law, (commercial) contracts, in particular franchising, licensing and sponsorship agreements and general contract law. Gie is a specialist in trademark protection and anti-counterfeiting. He is a strong negotiator, and has gained experience in IP litigation against infringers.

Gie's recent work 
  • Frequent speaker about counterfeit and contributory infringement at international events (e.g. ECTA Annual conference 2018 and the Global IP Exchange Europe event on Berlin 2018)
  • Gie is vice-chairman of ECTA's Anti-Counterfeit Committee
  • Runs the anti-counterfeit practice for more than 30 brand owners. In 2022 together with team members Fleur Boom and Iris van der Wal, Gie wrote a chapter on brand protection in the Netherlands in a Comparative Guide on Anti-Counterfeiting entitled ‘Anti-Counterfeiting – Law Over Borders Comparative Guide 2022, published by The Global Legal Post.
