Iris has registered the following principal legal practice area in the Netherlands Bar’s register of legal practice areas (rechtsgebiedenregister):

  • Intellectual Property Law

Based on this registration, she is required to obtain ten training credits per calender year in each registered principal legal practice area in accordance with the standards set by the Netherlands Bar.

Iris joined LXA Attorneys in 2018 and works on all fields of intellectual property and advertisement law.

In 2018, Iris graduated cum laude from Utrecht University with a master’s Degree in private law with a specialisation in intellectual property law. She wrote her master’s thesis on misleading food labelling. During her studies, Iris spent a semester studying in the United Kingdom, volunteered at the Rechtswinkel Utrecht legal advice center and gained experience within the IP legal profession.

Iris advises and litigates in areas including fashion, luxury goods, foodstuffs, consumer products, media and technology. She acts for multinational and national clients in various matters concerning trademark law, design law, copyright law, trade name law, domain names and advertising law.

Iris’ recent work
  • Advising and litigating on infringements of trademark, design, copyright and trade name rights;
  • Assisting various clients in cases before the self-regulatory Stichting Reclame Code;
  • Assisting various clients in proceedings at the Benelux Office for Intellectual Property and the European Union Intellectual Property Office;
  • Assisting and advising on various agreements, such as licensing agreements;
  • Advising in the field of food law, more specifically in relation to misleading food labelling;
  • Publishing an academic article about the Dutch implementation of the Teekanne-judgment (IER 2019/17);
  • Co-author of the article 'Contributory trade mark infringement liability: a comparison of US and EU law' published in the Oxford University Press Journal of Intellectual Property Law & Practice (Volume 14, Issue 11);
  • Co-author of The Global Legal Post's book 'Anti-counterfeiting Comparative Law Guide 2022'.
