Irma has registered the following principal legal practice area in the Netherlands Bar’s register of legal practice areas (rechtsgebiedenregister):

Based on this registration, she is required to obtain ten training credits per calender year in each registered principal legal practice area in accordance with the standards set by the Netherlands Bar.

Irma is part of LXA’s Commercial Contracts team. She has over 25 years of experience as a specialist in private international law and commercial law.

Irma advises and litigates in matters involving international commercial contracts, such as agency, distribution, franchise and international production licences as well cooperation contracts and the related  liability and insurance issues. Irma also specializes in general terms and conditions (offline and online B2B/B2C sales, engagement, purchase, (sub)contracting) and in European e- commerce and consumer law.

She litigates in both complex civil proceedings and national and international arbitration proceedings (NAI, RvA, ICC, UNCITRAL and ad hoc).

Irma successfully assists both Dutch and foreign businesses in the international trade sector and in the commercial provision of services. Irma has in particular broad expertise and experience in retail, travel and in the field of technology & manufacturing  and their related disputes.


Irma's recent work 
  • General purchase/subcontracting conditions and general sales conditions for a global company operating in developing and installing innovative store concepts and cash registers.
  • Exclusive production license and distributorship agreement for a Dutch licensor and supplier for the market of insect control products for professional use in Brazil.
  • International arbitration proceedings (NOFOTA) in first instance and in appeal for a German lecithin manufacturing and international trading company and the successful dismissal  by the Court of Appeal The Hague of the annulment of the arbitral appeal award.
  • Exclusive cooperation agreement regarding the global commercial exploitation of composed chairs between a Dutch trading company and a Chinese manufacturing company.
