Maikel has registered the following principal legal practice area in the Netherlands Bar’s register of legal practice areas (rechtsgebiedenregister):

  • Civil Procedure Law

Based on this registration, he is required to obtain ten training credits per calender year in each registered principal legal practice area in accordance with the standards set by the Netherlands Bar.

Maikel has been a lawyer since July 2007 and joined LXA Advocaten in 2017. He is part of both the Construction Law team and the Commercial Contracts / Litigation and Arbitration team.

 

Construction Law

Maikel has specialist expertise in civil construction law. He represents all parties in the construction chain, such as (sub)contractors, constructors and principals, large and small construction companies and joint ventures. He advises on all kinds of construction contracts and conditions and has years of extensive experience in litigation in first instance, appeal, interlocutory proceedings as well as proceedings at the Arbitration Board for the Building Industry (RvA).

 

Commercial contracts

Furthermore, Maikel regularly advises and litigates on various partnerships, such as distribution and/or agency agreements and franchise. In addition to civil construction law, Maikel has specialist expertise in liability law and acts, inter alia, for companies and board members in cases involving directors' liability.

Maikel has successfully completed the Grotius specialization course In "Corporate & liability law".

 

Maikel's recent work 
  • Litigating preliminary relief proceedings on the termination of a partnership between a clothing manufacturer and a distributor
  • Advising and assisting a contractor in resolving disputes surrounding a large government building project executed on the basis of a design-and-build agreement
  • Litigating preliminary relief proceedings for a contractor in connection with the payment of outstanding invoices and the approval of additional work
  • Conducting litigation in connection with a dispute between shareholders and the failure to fulfill a loan agreement
  • Conducting litigation in connection with the buyout of a shareholder and the price of the shares to be transferred
  • Conducting litigation for a construction materials wholesaler in connection with outstanding invoices and on a dispute concerning the quality of materials delivered
  • Conducting litigation in connection with the termination of a limited partnership and the determination of the buy-out price in connection with the continuation of the enterprise by one of the partners
  • Conducting litigation in connection with liability claims against an asbestos removal firm
